Developed in the 1920s by the legendary physical trainer and founder of The New York Pilates Studio, Joseph H. Pilates, The Pilates Method is an exercise system focused on improving flexibility and strength for the total body without building bulk. Not surprisingly, some of the first people to use the Pilates Method were dancers such as Martha Graham and George Balanchine.

The Pilates Method is not just exercise.. It is a series of controlled movements engaging your body and mind, performed on specifically designed exercise apparatus or on a mat and supervised by a extensively trained teacher.

Instead of performing many repetitions of each exercise, Joseph H. Pilates preferred fewer, more precise movements, requiring proper control and form.

Because your mind is required to engage with your body to perform the movements correctly, you experience a new awareness of muscle function and control.

The "powerhouse" - abdomen, lower back, and buttocks is supported and strengthened, enabling the rest of the body to move freely.

To provide safe and effective conditioning for my clients, instruction is given from a teacher who has completed a rigorous training and a certification program.

Judy Fink has practiced with certifed instructors in “The Method” for eight years. She has been fortunate enough to have been taught by some of the best Pilates Method Instructors. She was thrilled to have been introduced to, and trained by Romana Kryzanowska, one of Joseph Pilates disciples.

Judy feels there is always room for learning. Experienced instructors can always offer something to enhance your practice, no matter how much knowledge you have. She continues with her education through Power Pilates and Peak Pilates in The Pilates Method. She wants to keep her style of teaching to the authentic style as Joseph Pilates had taught. She will never stop pursuing more knowledge of Pilates because to her it is her passion not her work. There is a difference!

We are certified in Power Pilates comprehensive training and Peak Pilates™
